As a pioneer in the field of social Work education in Madhya Pradesh, the Department emphasizes practical orientation and hands on exposure and experience of the Social Service sector. The post graduate courses offers three specializations Labour Welfare & Human Resource Management, Urban & Rural Community Development, Medical & Psychiatric Social Work all focusing on areas of contemporary relevance. The students can thus choose their preferred area of interest and ability. The curriculum design and its implementation prepare students to productive and empowered members of the workforce. A large number of extensive programs, carried out with the help and support of the extensive linkages of the college, supplement classroom learning. The integrated development of the students is facilitated through a flexible learner-centered, intellectually stimulating environment for growth. The teaching and learning focuses on teamwork, strategic planning, decision making and computerization.

The program is imparted through tutorials, seminars, classroom lectures as well as fieldwork practice. The course prepares students to choose from a wide spectrum of employment opportunities in the Industrial, urban & rural Social Service and Medical and psychiatric Social sectors. Relevant exposure is provided to the students through field work training with several NGOs and GOs. Rural camp and study tour are an integral and compulsory part of this post-graduate programme.

The teaching methodology emphasizes on

Sensitivity to socially relevant issues and awareness of social and community needs is fostered through

  • Interaction and collaboration with several NGOs and governmental Organizations
  • AIDS awareness
  • Cancer Awareness
  • Arrangement of medical, legal and educational aid for underprivileged children through Childline
  • Non formal education through programs like 'Aanganwadi', Rallies, Nukkad Natak
  • Remembering International Days
  • Organizing Guest lectures
  • Compulsory dissertation for all three specialization students

The Department of Social Work is known for its academic excellence. For the last four years the Sir Ratan Tata Trust of Mumbai has been awarding merit scholarships to five of our most deserving students each year. The students of BSSS bag most of the university merit positions.

Eligibility: Graduates in Arts / Science / Commerce, who have secured 45% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examinations from a recognized university

Age Limit: 35 years for Male candidates. No age limit for Female candidates

Admission Procedure: Admissions are based on merit of percentage obtained in Graduation. Besides, the admission procedure also includes a Written Test consisting of Essay, Basic English, Mathematics, General Knowledge, Reasoning, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
